The NOLA Project continues its 10th anniversary season with "Camille," by Charles Ludlam, at the Mid-City Theatre. Running tonight, January 30-March 1, a comedic dream team is poised to bring this production to life.

The cross-dressing comedy, directed by Jeffery T. Roberson (better known on stage as Varla Jean Merman), is based on the classic Alexander Dumas story, which has lived through dozens of variations since its inception. "Camille" tells the tear-jerker tale of a Tubercular Parisian courtesan, Marguerite Gautier (played by AJ Allegra), that renounces her jealous, rich lover, the Baron De Varville (Ricky Graham) in order to follow her true heart to the countryside with poor young Armand Duval (Sam Dudley). This farcical melodrama, with a surprisingly touching conclusion, will have audiences laughing through tears and crying through laugher.

In addition to Allegra, Graham, and Dudley, the cast will include NOLA Project company members Keith Claverie, (fresh off the stage as Malvolio in our production of "Twelfth Night" at NOMA), Kristin Witterschein (Viola in "Twelfth Night), and Jason Kirkpatrick (who audiences will remember as Oberon in "A Midsummer Night's Dream" at NOMA). Joining the company will be local fan favorites Sean Patterson, Kyle Daigrepont, Michael Sullivan, and Erin Shaw.

This production is one that NOLA Project has a deep history with. Several company members are reprising roles they first played in an NYU production of "Camille" while studying there. "We've spent years thinking about doing it again," said Artistic Director and leading lady, AJ Allegra. He continues, "I'm excited for the audience to step into Charles Ludlam's ridiculous world with us. We've never attempted a show of this style before, but the cast we have in place is simply one of the best you could ask for. This is a true 'wish list' team of New Orleans actors and NOLA Project ensemble members."
