Tennessee Williams Literary Festival Announces Upcoming Events

Start the long weekend off early on Wednesday, March 24 at 7 p.m. with our Cocktails and Cinema event. New Orleans' best bartenders will have a mix-off contest to create cocktails inspired by Tennessee Williams. The judge? Saints player (the first time we've had one at the Festival!) Deuce McAllister! The contest will be followed by a screening of A Streetcar Named Desire at 8 p.m. Tickets are only $5 each and are available both online and at the door.

Our late night options begin at One Eyed Jacks on Thursday, March 25 at 8 p.m. with our Literary Late Night event. The National Comedy Company will perform an improvised short musical piece, which should prove to be especially hilarious since you and the rest of the audience will get to control the characters' destinies! This will be followed by a high-energy poetry slam hosted by famed spoken word artist, New Orleans spoken word artist and slam champion, Chuck Perkins. You can throw your hat in the proverbial ring and sign up between 7:00-7:30 p.m. to compete for the $100 prize. Alternatively, you may be picked to judge the contestants. Tickets are only $15 each and are available both online and at the door.

Come back to One Eyed Jacks Friday night for our Literary Death Match, which features four writers-Amanda Boyden, Chuck Perkins, Michael Patrick Welch and Arthur Phillips-performing their most electric work in seven minutes or less, before a panel of three all-star judges, including Tennessee Williams himself (as portrayed by the actor, Jeremy Lawrence). After a pair of readings, the judges will provide off-the-wall commentary about each story, each focusing on one of the three categories: literary merit, performance and intangibles. They then select their favorite of the two writers to advance to a final and ridiculous battle for literary glory. Opium Magazine and Literary Death Match founder Todd Zuniga will host and oversee the proceedings. Tickets are only $15 each and are available both online and at the door.

On Saturday night, head to the Dragon's Den for our sure-to-be stirring erotica event Bedtime Stories featuring burlesque dancers Reverend Spooky Le Strange and her Billion Dollar Baby Dolls, and titillating readings from local authors and actors including Jackson Moss, Laura Lane Miller and Veronica Russell. Jeni Stewart hosts the event, which is sure to leave your intellect tickled. Tickets are only $5 each and are available both online and at the door.
