The judges of our annual One-Act Play and Fiction contests have spoken! We are thrilled to announce that Jill McCorkle has chosen "Polaroid" by Kristen-Paige Madonia as the winner of our Fiction contest. Meanwhile, on our One-Act Play contest front, Outside Sitka" by Josh Billig has emerged as the winner.
Both Kristen-Paige and Josh will receive a grand prize of $1,500 and a host of other literary goodies. Come hear their work during the Festival. Kristen-Paige will be reading her story on Sunday at 2.30 p.m. in an event presided over by contest judge, Jill McCorkle. Josh s play will be read at Le Petit Theatre, Muriel s Cabaret at 10 a.m. on Sunday.
We'd like to congratulate Kristen-Paige and Josh and thank all the authors and playwrights who submitted work for consideration. We hope you will continue writing and look forward to reading your future work. We urge you to consider attending this year's Festival to hone your craft. All contest entrants are eligible for student ticket rates, and finalists earn a free Panel Pass.
The program is packed with resources for writers. Cowriter of The Wire and co-creator of the upcoming HBO series Treme, Eric Overmyer is set to teach a master class on writing for the stage and screen. Joseph Boyden will discuss rewrites, N.M. Kelby will ruminate on the business and art of fiction and John Dufresne will tell you how to knock out your novel in six months. And that's just the first day of the Festival! Friday's schedule includes Conversations with Dave Eggers and John Patrick Shanley and a crash course Master Class on book publicity by Alfred A. Knopf's top publicists, and much more.
