The Last Five Years is award-winning composer and pianist Jason Robert Brown's autobiographical exploration of his own love, relationship, and marriage over a 5-year span. Featuring a complex piano score and dazzling lyrics, The Last Five Years has earned a place amongst musical theatre lovers as a contemporary classic.

Jamie, a rising author, tells the story of his relationship from the beginning to the end, while Cathy, a struggling actress, reflects on the dissolution of her marriage from the end to the beginning. The two characters only intersect at one pivotal moment in the story: the proposal. Their marriage examines cultural and religious differences, fidelity, the pursuit of creativity, and the rollercoaster of love.

Le Petit Theatre Artistic Director Maxwell Williams says, "I'm so excited for Michael McKelvey and these wonderful actors and musicians to bring Jason Robert Brown's infectious and moving score to life in this New Orleans' premiere. Many people are already familiar with the music, but even if you're experiencing it for the first time, you can't help but leave the theatre with a tear in your eye and a smile on your face."

Summer Lyric Theatre Artistic Director Michael McKelvey makes his directorial debut at Le Petit. McKelvey most recently directed Gypsy and Hairspray with Summer Lyric Theatre and Reefer Madness and Hand to God with the Storyville Collective.

Le Petit alumni MerEdith Owens (Pippin) and Adair Watkins (Jesus Christ Superstar) return as the lovestruck and then love torn couple, Cathy and Jamie. Owens was most recently seen in Gypsy at Summer Lyric Theatre, where her performance as Gypsy Rose Lee garnered acclaim in the transformative role.

The production's creative team features Costume Design by Kaci Thomassie (It's Only a Play), Scenic Design by David Utley, Lighting Design by Andrew Griffin (Jelly's Last Jam, Once On This Island), Projection Design by Porscha Danielle, and Sound Design by Christopher Ross-Ewart.

Le Petit Théâtre du Vieux Carré is one of the oldest local theaters in the country. It was established in 1916 and has operated continuously as a producing theater ever since, first as a community theatre, then transforming into the professional theater it is today. For nearly nine decades, the theater has been housed in a historic French Quarter building of the same name. It features a 325-seat house hosting five main stage productions, casting both Equity and Non-Equity performers.
