Summer Lyric Theatre at Tulane Announces Shows, Auditions and Workshops for 52nd Season Image

Summer Lyric Theatre at Tulane, the Gulf South region's preeminent summer theatre announces its 2019 season entitled "Something for Everyone". After a lengthy process of gathering audience member input, SLT will be presenting a season with titles spanning the history of the musical theatre cannon.

In 2018, SLT launched Lyric Lagniappe, a special concert event based on Broadway's Encore series which presents concert performances of rarely performed shows. To return to its operetta roots, SLT will present Gilbert & Sullivan's Pirates of Penzance in Concert (June 1 & 2) featuring Ricky Graham as The Major General and the SLT orchestra on stage.

"Come and meet those dancing feet" when SLT will officially open the season with the tap dance extravaganza 42nd Street (June 20-23), directed and choreographed by the award-winning Diane Lala and performed by some of the greatest hoofers in NOLA.

In the middle slot, She Loves Me (July 11-14) will be making its long-overdue Summer Lyric debut. Based on the play Parfumerie, which also inspired the movie "You've Got Mail", the Harnick & Bock (Fidder on the Roof) classic recently enjoyed a very successful Broadway revival and PBS airing. She Loves Me will be directed by Michael E. McKelvey with choreography by Jaune Buisson.

To conclude the season, Summer Lyric will be presenting its second regional premiere in two seasons with the Matilda, the Olivier winner for Best Musical. Adapted from the children's novel by Roald Dahl and an award-winning score by the clever Tim Minchin, Matilda has gone on to capture the hearts and imaginations of audience members of all ages the world over. Matilda will be directed by Michael E. McKelvey with choreography by Kelly Fouchi.

Auditions for the season will be February 15 & 16 with callbacks on February 17th. Audition information and registration can be found on the SLT website, http://summerlyric.tulane.edu.

Summer Lyric will also be hosting free Musical Theatre Audition Workshops on Saturday, February 2nd & 9th. The workshops are open to all New Orleans performers. Those interested can get more information and register on the Summer Lyric website, http://summerlyric.tulane.edu.
