The last production of Southern Rep's 24th season offers a unique twist on the usual play-going experience: Alan Ayckbourn's THE NORMAN CONQUESTS is a trilogy that follows a dysfunctional family through one crazy weekend. Each play depicts the events from a different place in the house, allowing the audience to see all the fighting, loving, talking, screaming, and hilarity from every angle. At points both funny and poignant, NORMAN will delight audiences with this look at marriage, family obligations, and finding happiness.
This cast is very eclectic...all different walks of theatre life. We've got Cripple Creek, NOLA Project, and Ricky is a whole company on his own. And honestly, who doesn't want to see Andy Vaught prance around in pajamas?
--Natalie Boyd, cast member, THE NORMAN CONQUESTS
NORMAN features some of New Orleans' most fabulous and funny actors including James Bartelle, Natalie Boyd,
Ricky Graham, Aimée Hayes, Jennifer Pagan and Andrew Vaught and is directed by director
Damon W. Arrington.
The cast of NORMAN brings together a disparate group of charlatans, jokesters, and comic marauders never before seen together on a New Orleans stage. This production's not just a marathon play-going event for the audience, but also an opportunity for this cast to throw down to see who wins each moment. Already after one week in rehearsals we are rooting for (and sometimes against) each other for who can deliver the funniest moments. Oddly, each cast member is part of their own theatre company--which means we are all bosses and used to being in charge. So the energy in the room is infused with an incredible seriousness (comedy is serious after all) and with an edge of just-about-to-burst hilarity... We have decided to accept
Harvey Korman as our personal savior because we are not sure how to get through this with our dignity intact.
--Aimée Hayes, Artistic Director of Southern Rep
The production runs May 19 - June 5 with a rotating schedule of the plays, giving audiences the chance to catch each part of the story, which can be enjoyed in any order. For example, you could come all three Thursdays in a row and see all three plays. Or, on Sundays, adventurous theatre-goers can attend all three plays in the trilogy in a spectacular NORMAN marathon! Tasty box lunches and dinners will be available to pre-order, or patrons can take advantage of their break and visit some of the fantastic restaurants in the Quarter.
"Unrequited Lust, in Triplicate ... I know the question you want to ask. If you see only one of these plays, which should it be? Let me put it this way: You can't lose with any one, but you win big if you go to all three. Seeing the entire trilogy in one day, as I did, allowed me the luxurious privilege of getting to know characters in a way that only fat novels allow."
