Southern Rep Theatre announces casting details and event schedule for a special limited engagement of A Tennessee Williams DOUBLE BILL, a pair of short plays offered in conjunction with the Tennessee Williams / New Orleans Literary Festival. AND TELL SAD STORIES OF THE DEATH OF QUEENS, posthumously published, is paired with THE TWO-CHARACTER PLAY, one of Williams' late works. This event runs nine performances only, March 21 - April 1, 2018, Loyola University, Marquette Theatre.
AND TELL SAD STORIES OF THE DEATH OF QUEENS, directed by Ricky Graham, features Evan Spigelman as "Candy," a drag queen who picks up a rough sailor (Garrett Prejean) over a momentous Mardi Gras holiday. Candy's neighbors (Christopher Jennings and Nathan Stevens) are left to help pick up the pieces after the affair is over. The play was never produced in Williams' lifetime.
THE TWO-CHARACTER PLAY - known in some versions as OUT CRY - was one of Williams' favorites: "My most beautiful play since STREETCAR, the very heart of my life." This production, presented in association with Playhouse Creatures Theatre Company, features Irene Glezos and Joseph W. Rodriguez as a brother-sister team of actors abandoned by their troupe to perform before an unknown audience. Acclaimed actor and director Austin Pendleton directs. Ms. Glezos returns to Southern Rep following her Big Easy Award nominated performance as "Lady" in ORPHEUS DESCENDING.
Says director Austin Pendleton, "I don't think I have ever worked on a play as unstintingly personal . . . It's like a goofy Greek tragedy, in which two outrageous people are made (by themselves) to face the darkest truths about themselves."
