Southern Rep Announces Open Call Auditions for A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE

Southern Rep announces auditions for the third play in tge 2011-2012 Mainstage Season, A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE by Tennessee Williams, directed by Jason Kirkpatrick, produced in collaboration with InSideOut Productions.

An open call will be held Saturday, October 8, 10am-4:00pm at Southern Rep Theatre, Third Floor, Canal Place, 365 Canal Street. Parking will be validated ($2 for four hours).
Actors must prepare a two-minute classic American monologue and bring three copies of their headshots and resumes. Please come prepared to note conflicts from December 2011 through April 2012 as a week-long production workshop will be taking place before rehearsals begin. PRODUCTION DATES: Workshop: Winter TBD. First Rehearsal: February 22, 2012. First Preview: March 21, 2012. Final Performance: April 8, 2012. Extension TBD. PLEASE NO CALLS.

The principal roles have been cast. Southern Rep supports diverse casting except where race and color are specified within the playwright's script. Available roles include:

· Steve Hubble: 40s-50s. Salt of the earth working man mechanic type, joking and happy husband of Eunice Hubble.
· Eunice Hubble: 40s-50s.Strong dominate and protective Landlord of Stella and Stanley's apartment, curious and lively.
· Pablo Gonzales: 20s-30s. Polite and energetic friend of Stanley's, speaks with Spanish accent.
· Young Collector: 17. Shy and angelic.
· Doctor: 40s-50s. Gentle fatherly doctor type.
· Matron: Any age. Strong and bullish nurse type.
· African-American Woman: 30s-40s. Adult, Happy, fun, loud and full of life.
· Mexican Woman: 40s-70s. Blind flower vendor who sings a street call in Spanish.
· Streetwalker: Young, nonspeaking.
· Sailor: Young, nonspeaking.
· Thugs: Young, any ethnicity.
