Gary Rucker and Kelly Fouchi's original Theatre 13's 2009 production of The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, nominated for a Big Easy Award for Best Musical, returns by popular demand for a March 4 - 20th run on the Main Stage at the Rivertown Theaters for the Performing Arts.

The 2005 nominee for six Broadway Tony Awards, winning two, including Best Book, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee has charmed audiences across the country with its effortless wit and humor. An eclectic group of six mid-pubescents (played by all adults), vie for the spelling championship of a lifetime. While candidly disclosing hilarious and touching stories from their home life, they sing, dance and spell their way through a series of [potentially made-up] words, while learning that winning (and losing) isn't everything. An unusual aspect of the show is that four real audience members are invited on stage to compete in the spelling bee alongside the six young characters. Theatergoers interested in being part of the Spelling Bee can sign up in the lobby before the show that night.

Featuring a fast-paced, wildly funny, yet touching book and truly fresh score, this musical bee is an unforgettable experience. With side splitting audience participation, no two performances are the same. Theatergoers will want to come back and see it again! Includes adult language. Recommended for ages 15 & up.
