Rivertown Theaters is proud to present a new and even funnier production of the long-running comedy Greater Tuna, complete with a live band on the Main Stage January 11 - 27.
While New Orleans was still recovering and evacuated after Hurricane Katrina, actors Gary Rucker and Sean Patterson performed Greater Tuna in Covington LA, the first show back on a stage less than six weeks after the hurricane and with only two weeks of rehearsals. Their Rivertown Theater production will be an even Greater Tuna, a brand new version performed and directed by the city's favorite comedy pair who audiences will laughingly remember from Rivertown's sold-out, award-winning productions of The Producers and The Odd Couple.
Greater Tuna is a hilarious and irreverent comedy about Texas' third smallest town, where the Lion's club is too liberal and Patsy Cline never dies. The eclectic band of Tuna citizens - men, women, children, and animals alike - are portrayed by ONLY 2 performers, making this satire on life in rural America both crazy and delightful as they change characters and costumes at breakneck speed. Called "a good ol' down-home laugh-out-loud fest," Greater Tuna has enjoyed worldwide success, including long-running engagements both on and off-Broadway, at the White House, and as an HBO special. 2 Actors, 20 Characters, 20 million laughs!
