Members of the cast of HAIR, now playing at Le Petit Theatre, spent this morning demonstrating music and dance to a hundred students from charter schools in Algiers. Students from Algiers Technology Academy, Martin Behrman Charter Academy for Creative Arts & Sciences, McDonogh #32 Literacy Charter School, William J. Fischer Accelerated Learning Academy, Dwight D. Eisenhower Academy of Global Studies participated in the theatre's "Because We Can" education program. Check out a look back below!
"Movement and music connects students with the world we live in today. It teaches them creative expression, which is often overlooked in today's academic world," said Director Troy Poplous. Fifteen students warmed up on stage then heard from Poplous about the role of a theatrical director and a brief discussion about the production and the times during which it was written. Poplous and Choreographer Clayton Shelvin, Musical Director Robert Pate and cast members answered questions from the stage and performed hits like Aquarius, Hair, Let the Sunshine In and more.
HAIR plays at Le Petit Theatre through Nov. 23. Tickets are on sale at www.lepetittheatre.com
