A cast of twelve actors will transform themselves into nearly 100 characters in Peter and the Starcatcher, ("Starcatcher"), the second production this season from Le Petit Theatre du Vieux Carre. The Tony Award-winning Starcatcher opened on Broadway just over two years ago and has been described as a "wildly theatrical, hilarious and innovative retelling of how a miserable orphan came to be the boy who never grew up."

Starcatcher upends the century-old legend of Peter Pan. It tells the story of an orphaned boy on the high seas, referred to as "Boy" because he is never given a real name. His wild adventures provide a hilarious backstory for the beloved character of Peter Pan and his arch-nemesis Captain Hook. It is based on the 2006 novel of a similar name by Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson, adapted for the stage by Rick Elice. This family-friendly show will enchant audience members of all ages.

Beau Bratcher will direct the production which is accompanied by a small orchestra. Boy's sad and lonely world is turned upside down when he meets Molly, the daughter of famous Starcatcher Lord Aster. Molly is on a mission to keep a trunk full of treasure from getting into the hands of an evil and greedy pirate. As the two travel aboard the Neverland ship headed for a faraway land, Molly and Boy learn about love, friendship and forge an unbreakable bond.?

Bratcher, who is also managing director of The NOLA Project, offers this tidbit: "Peter Pan first premiered in 1904. I can think of no better way to celebrate his 110th birthday than with this fun and feisty tale of his origin. This play is a love letter to Peter Pan, theatre and never growing up. Come celebrate with us!" Bratcher won a Big Easy Award for his direction of "A Truckload of Ink" and also teaches theatre at Lusher Charter School in New Orleans. He hopes that theatergoers come willing to let their imaginations take them away. That should be easy with choreography and movement by Heidi Malnar and musical direction by Tammy Mansfield.
