The New Orleans Fringe Festival invites the public to their annual preview event, the delicious Pu-Pu Platter, on Saturday, October 15 at 8 pm. Held at the brand spanking new Café Istanbul at the New Orleans Healing Center (2372 St. Claude Avenue), this year's Pu-Pu offers a scrumptious taste of the wonderful variety in the upcoming Fringe Festival on November 16- 20. The event features fresh and fabulous 5-minute selections of 9 Fringe artists' full shows, ranging from dance to performance art to theatre, as well as a wedding run amuck. At the event the audience can browse Fringe Fest show information and purchase tickets to this year's Fringe Fest. Admission is completely free and complimentary beer and popcorn will be served!
This year's Pu-Pu Platter presents an incredible variety of artists who cannot wait to show New Orleans audiences what they are bringing to the Fringe. The evening includes DaVida Chanel's music and dance-driven, "Hip Hop is Alive", and "Welcome to Desire", a re-interpretation of A Streetcar Name Desire by the wild and wacky Tally-ho Daredevils. From Chicago, Lisa Biggs brings "Where Spirit Rides" and local artists Kat Scotelo and Jee-Horne Kan perform a ceremony like you've never seen before in "The Wedding". And these are just a few of the night's samplings!
All of the pieces in Pu-Pu will be part of the New Orleans Fringe Festival from November 16-20. This year's Fringe Festival will feature an amazing lineup of 70 performing groups and over 30 venues, primarily in the Marigny and Bywater. The line-up and ticket sales will be announced on October 1, 2011. Tickets are $8 plus a $3 Fringe button and will be available at ww.nofringe.org. In addition to the wealth of performing arts presented during the Fringe, the 5-day festival also has a Free-For-All-Tent with live music, free beer and family events, an arts market and the wonderful Good Childrens' Fringe Parade.
"This year's Pu-Pu will give audiences a delicious taste of what the Fringe Fest has to offer in November!" says Pu-Pu Platter Coordinator Pamela Davis-Noland, "We are taking the Pu-Pu Platter to the next level as an interactive and choreographed performance of Fringe Fest shows."
"What a better space to showcase our festival than at the new Café Istanbul?" comments Phil Cramer, Fringe Venue Coordinator, "It is a beautiful venue that we are excited to be able to use in the Fringe, and is a great addition to the thriving arts corridor of St. Claude Avenue".
