Deadline.com reports that Matthew McConaughey and Emile Hirsch will lead a film adaptation of Tracy Lett's Killer Joe.  Filming is scheduled to begin in Toronto on November 8, 2010 in New Orleans. Letts is best known in the theater world for Broadway's Superior Donuts (2009) and August: Osage County (2007) which won the pulitzer prize for drama. Letts will adapt his play of the same name for the screen.

William Friedkin will direct the "black comedy," which follows a detective who is also a hired killer, for Nicolas Chartier's Voltage Pictures.

The play version of Killer Joe was first performed in 1993 in the lab space of Evanston's Next Theatre.
