JPAS to Host CELEBRATION OF AMERICA, 7/1-3

The Jefferson Performing Arts Society will be presenting a series of patriotic events during a week they call "Celebration of America" which will be held July 1st-3rd.

JPAS will host a musical concert performed by the Marine Core Band of New Orleans, July 1st at 7:00pm, East Jefferson High School Auditorium, 400 Phlox St. Metairie, LA. This concert is free and open to the public. Marine Corps Band New Orleans was established October 1, 1978. Under the control of Marine Forces Reserve, the unit is comprised of active duty Marines stationed at the Marine Corps Support Facility in New Orleans.

Continuing the celebration, a documentary entitled MURPH | The Protector will be shown July 2nd at 7:00pm, East Jefferson High School Auditorium, 400 Phlox St. Metairie, LA. This event is free and open to the public. MURPH | The Protector is a full-length documentary based on LT Michael Murphy's entire life of honor, courage, and commitment, as told by his friends, family, and teammates.

And finally, enjoy a mid week BBQ Dinner & a Show The Complete History of America (abridged) will have a special BBQ Dinner Performance, July 3rd at 6:00pm. Teatro Wego!, 177 Sala Ave. Westwego, LA.

The Complete History of America (abridged) is a fast-paced, semi-accurate historical comedy. The audience takes a journey with 3 comedic actors on a tour of "600 years of history in 6000 seconds." Tickets are $30 and can be purchased by calling 504.885.2000 or visiting www.jpas.org. Tickets will not be sold at the door and reservations must be made by July 1st. Performances will also be held, June 26-27 & July 10-12 Tickets are $15 and do not include dinner.

Assaf and Hannah Cunningham, the Jefferson Performing Arts Society is a non-profit professional arts organization whose mission is to promote arts performance, training, and outreach by providing a diverse range of quality programs that entertain, educate and enrich the cultural and economic vitality of Jefferson Parish, Greater New Orleans and the Gulf South.

JPAS focuses on three main elements:

Performance: JPAS annually provides a wide range of theatrical performances that appeal to many interests and age groups. Most seasons include a selection of grand opera, musical theater, dance and music. JPAS strives to network and partner with national and international artists and companies to bring new and diverse programming to the Southern Region.

Training: JPAS provides performance and technical based training in the arts for all ages with a particular focus on young people.

Outreach: JPAS provides arts education programming in local area schools, as well as access to professional theatrical experiences that align to classroom curricula and Louisiana Content Standards, including Arts Adventure Series, Cultural Crossroads and Stage Without A Theatre. JPAS provides performers, musicians, artistic experiences and expertise to select area events and organizations to enrich the community.
