Five by Tenn: An Evening of Selected Scenes from Tennessee Williams Plays

WHEN: Saturday, January 11 at 8:00 P.M.
WHERE: Marigny Opera House, 725 St Ferdinand St, New Orleans, LA 70117
COST: $20

Come see short readings from selected scenes by America's greatest playwright. These vignettes represent the depth and breadth of his talent. You'll witness Obie award winner Brenda Currin performing from Williams' classic Orpheus Descending. Orpheus was developed from an earlier Williams' work, Battle of Angels written in 1940. Veronica Russell and Eli Grove will present a scene of this earlier rendition. Aimee Hayes and Mike Harkins will dazzle with a scene from The Night of the Iguana as a preview of what's to come at the Tennessee Williams/New Orleans Literary Festival in March.

Scenes from lesser known works round out the program-David Hoover directs a scene from The Mutilated, a Tennessee Williams comedy set in the French Quarter. And Jason Kirkpatrick directs the talented Kerry Cahill and Ross Britz in Not About Nightingales. Although this play was originally written in the 1930s, it wasn't discovered until the late 1990s when Vanessa Redgrave made it her personal mission to track it down. For tickets to this TW Sampler, visit southernrep.com or call 504-522-6545.

Presented by Southern Rep in partnership with the Tennessee Williams/New Orleans Literary Festival: THE NEW PLAY BACCHANAL is a multi-faceted annual play festival that gathers local artists, playwrights, directors, and the theatre community together to exchange and produce ideas, and to encourage the development of new work, nurture local playwrights and support New Orleans' creative community at large. THE NEW PLAY BACCHANAL will be hosted at the Marigny Opera House (with the exception of the Toga Party, hosted at The Shadowbox), January 10 - 11, 2014.
