Theater to Go presents this riveting drama based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning 1960 novel by Harper Lee. The story of tomboy Scout Finch unfolds as she watches her lawyer father, Atticus, take on the most controversial case of his career. It is a story of racial injustice, courage and compassion. Through young Scout’s journey, the struggle to do what is right over what is easy inspires hope and understanding.
Christopher Sergel's adaptation of the Harper Lee novel will be presented by Theater To Go at Kelsey Theatre March 17-26 and will be directed by Ruth Markoe.
This partially autobiographical story is told through the eyes of Scout Finch, a young girl who awakens to the reality of adulthood through the violent goings in her home town. The fictitious town of Maycomb, Alabama comes to life in 1935 as he town prepares for the trial of Tom Robinson, a young Black man unjustly accused of raping a young white woman. Atticus Finch, Scout’s father is the attorney who strives prove Tom’s innocence. against daunting odds and a system of hopelessness for the accused. But Scout learns that even hopelessness does not prevent you from doing the right thing
