THE FEST is a four-day celebration of multiculturalism at Rowan that joins the University with the broader community to celebrate a range of diverse live performances in and around Bunce Hall, and features three unique casts performing Lin-Manuel Miranda's (Hamilton, In the Heights) 21 Chump Street in Tohill Theater, directed by Rowan Theatre & Dance Alumna Caitlin Alvarez '21. 21 Chump Street is a musical based on a true story as reported in the series This American Life - a cautionary tale of Justin, a high school honors student who falls for a cute transfer girl. Justin goes to great lengths to oblige Naomi's request for marijuana in the hopes of winning her affection - only to find out that his crush is actually an undercover cop planted in the school to find drug dealers. 21 Chump Street will be performed three times each date of THE FEST (7:30, 8:30, 9:30 PM Thursday-Saturday and 2:00, 3:00, 4:00 PM Sunday), and all three casts will be performing on all dates. In addition to 21 Chump Street, THE FEST will feature an intimate cabaret in Bunce Hall Studio 159, which includes songs from the musicals The Bakers Wife and The Witches of Eastwick, as well as spoken word and puppetry performances. An outdoor pop-up market, made possible by The Melanin Marketplace will be offered just outside of Bunce Hall before, during, and after the time-based performance events (which will move inside Bunce Hall in the event of inclement weather).
