The Barn Theatre continues its 97th Season with its upcoming production of John Steinbeck’s masterpiece, Of Mice and Men Directed by Mark Phelan of Parsippany NJ. This poignant and powerful play explores themes of friendship, loneliness, and the American Dream amidst the backdrop of the Great Depression. Of Mice and Men tells the story of George Milton (Bradley Carrington, Berkeley Heights, NJ) and Lennie Small (Ian Kenny, Parsippany, NJ), two migrant workers who dream of owning their own piece of land. Their journey is filled with hope, hardship, and the complex bond that exists between them. At the ranch, they meet up with the mean-spirited Boss, (Eric Heiberg, Long Valley, NJ), his son Curly (Matthew Gamerdinger, Morristown, NJ) and Curly’s wife (Syndney Blanchard, Oak Ridge, NJ). Rounding out the cast is the aging ranch hand Candy (Brad Bebout, Hewitt NJ) and the antagonistic Carlson (Mike Alexander Pompton Plains, NJ). Ron Richardson of Maplewood NJ plays the proud, bitter and caustically funny stable hand Crooks. Adding to the insight and back story of some of the play's characters is the prince of the ranch Slim (Jason Benjamin, Maplewood, NJ) and Whit (Kris Estrada, Randolph, NJ). This production will stay true to the original themes and narrative exploring difficult topics relevant to the time period in which the play is set. Topics include racism, ableism, sexism, violence, assault, murder and death plus strong and offensive language. Not recommended for under the age of thirteen.
