The Nutcracker Ballet is based on the story “The Nutcracker and the King of Mice” written by E.T. A. Hoffman. Although what is seen on the stage today is different in detail from the original story, the basic plot remains the same; The story of a young German girl who dreams of a Nutcracker Prince and fierce battle against a Mouse King with seven heads.
Nothing says “holiday magic” better than gathering up the family and spending an afternoon visiting with Clara and her amazing Nutcracker at the Levoy Theatre. For almost half a century, New Jersey Ballet has brough the cherished holiday tradition of Nutcracker to communities throughout the state. The first-rate traditional production never fails to enchant youngsters and grownups alike with splendid dancing, colorful costumes and scenery, eye-popping special effects, and a touch of holiday magic that inspires critics to applaud “a spectacle that never seems to age…magic that should go on and on,” and “One of the best…as goos as it gets.”
