A Hilarious Musical Voyage Through "The Wrath of Khan" Beams onto the Brook Arts Center Stage September 18–27 as Star Trek Celebrates Its 60th Anniversary

BOUND BROOK, NJ — Set phasers to musical! The Brook Arts Center Community Players in association with the Brook Arts Center, proudly presents the New Jersey premiere of KHAN!!! The Musical!, a wildly inventive musical comedy featuring Book, Music and Lyrics by Brent Black and Co-Conceived by Alina Roth. The production runs September 18–27, 2026, at the historic Brook Arts Center, 10 Hamilton Street in Bound Brook, New Jersey.

The New Jersey premiere arrives at an especially fitting moment as 2026 marks the 60th Anniversary of Star Trek. The original television series first premiered September 8, 1966, launching a science-fiction phenomenon that has spanned six decades and generations of devoted fans. Sixty years later, the Brook Arts Center Community Players celebrates that enduring legacy by bringing one of the franchise's most beloved stories to the stage in a form audiences have almost certainly never experienced before—as a musical comedy!

KHAN!!! The Musical! boldly goes where few musicals have gone before—into the world of Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, complete with revenge, space battles, dancing Vulcans, mutant space chickens, and naturally, a show-stopping musical finale.

The year is 2366, and Data the android is presenting his newly created musical for an artificially intelligent audience program. His show-within-a-show retells the events of The Wrath of Khan—although Data has taken a few liberties with the “historical” record for dramatic effect.

There is also one small problem: Data is literally an AI. His musical-writing style has inadvertently borrowed theatrical moments and tropes from shows like The Rocky Horror Show, Chicago and Les Misérables. To make matters worse, Data has cast himself in multiple roles—and there is no director around to stop him from upstaging the leads.

Data's musical begins with Admiral Kirk, now older and struggling with the realization that his glory days may be behind him. His longing to be young again launches the audience into a psychedelic flashback to the swingin' '60s—the 2260s, that is.

Meanwhile, Commander Chekov unwittingly discovers the planet where Kirk marooned his old nemesis, Khan, 15 years earlier. Khan seizes his opportunity for revenge, commandeering Chekov's ship and setting his sights on the man he has never forgiven.

When trouble reaches the Enterprise, Kirk questions whether he still belongs in the captain's chair. With a little help from Spock—and a “Vulcan dance meditation”—Kirk takes command once more. What follows is a musical intergalactic adventure filled with familiar characters, an epic battle of wits between Kirk and Khan, a long-lost son who sounds suspiciously like William Shatner, and a reflective ballad called “When the Chickens Come Home,” accompanied, of course, by a band of mutant space chickens.

At Kirk's lowest point, his old Enterprise crew reminds him of the hero he once was with the rousing “Boldly Go!” before Kirk, Spock and the crew face Khan in one final showdown.

And yes, the musical even tackles The Wrath of Khan's famously emotional conclusion, as Spock makes the ultimate sacrifice to save the Enterprise and his friends. For one brief moment, it appears Data's artificial intelligence may have actually created something genuinely poignant. But this is a musical comedy. Deciding the ending is simply too sad, Data brings everyone back for the appropriately titled finale, “Spock Wasn't Dead For Long!”

The New Jersey premiere features Joshua Williams as Data; Mike Patierno as Kirk; Joe Cremona as Khan; Marc John Suznovich as Spock; Lindsey Dress as Bones/Scotty; Gillian Velmer as Saavik; Asia Johnson as Uhura/Carol; and Dustin Wang as Sulu/Chekov.

KHAN!!! The Musical! runs for 8 performances, September 18–27, 2026:

Fridays at 8:00 PM Saturdays at 2:00 PM and 8:00 PM Sundays at 2:00 PM
