The award-winning Equity professional East Lynne Theater Company presents "Poe by Candlelight," just in time for Halloween on Saturday, October 29 at 8:00 PM at the Cape May Presbyterian Church, 500 Hughes Street in Cape May, where the theater is in residence.
Started in 2015, "Poe by Candlelight" continues to be one of the company’s most popular events. This year, stories by the master of the macabre include "The Cask of Amontillado," “Bernice,” “The Masque of the Red Death, and “The Tell-Tale Heart” read by Equity professional actors Matt Baxter Luceno, Amanda Brinlee, and Gayle Stahlhuth.
Matt’s ELTC credits include "Arsenic and Old Lace," and two world premieres, "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow," based on the classic tale, and "A Year in the Trenches" about World War I. His NYC credits include "The Winter’s Tale," directed by Everett Quinton and "Chemistry of Love" at LaMama. Regional credits include the two-hander "Dancing Lessons" at ARC Stages in Pleasantville, NY.
Amanda is a recent graduate of Fairleigh Dickinson University where she performed in both new and classic plays. She performed in last year's "Poe by Candlelight," and in the company's virtual reading of "Something to Vote For" (1911), "Vaudeville Variety," "Tales of the Victorians," and is the costumed storyteller for this year's "Ghosts of Christmas Past Trolley Rides," a popular holiday entertainment in partnership with Cape May MAC.
Gayle Stahlhuth has produced over 120 different productions since becoming ELTC’s producing artistic director in 1999, and directed most of them. She has also performed in Off-Broadway shows, national touring productions, and in regional theater and film. Her one-person shows are based on Louisa May Alcott, Edna Ferber, Catharine Beecher, "Eve’s Diary" based on the writings of Mark Twain, and "The Awakening" by Kate Chopin. Her two-person show based on Dorothea Lynde Dix, was commissioned by The National Portrait Gallery.
Reservations are strongly recommended. Tickets are $12 and ages 12 and under are free. For tickets and more information about this and other ELTC performances, visit www.eastlynnetheater.org or call 609-884-5898. "Poe by Candlelight" travels to the Lewes Public Library on Sunday, October 30.
