On Sunday, March 29th at 3pm Chester Theatre Group, in residence at the Black River Playhouse, continues it's year-long celebration of Alan Ayckbourn's 50th year of playwriting with a reading of his rarely staged 1991 play WILDEST DREAMS. The story concerns a group of misfits who get together on a weekly basis to play a dungeons and dragons-like role playing game and eventually become so wrapped up in the game that they can no longer fit into the real world.
The reading is produced by the 4A's - the Alan Ayckbourn Aficionados of America - a company made up of actors who have performed in many of the author's 72 plays. Leading roles are played by Carol Holland, Jamie More, Peter Kendall, Elizabeth Urcinoli, and Whitney Shields. Supporting cast includes Carla Kendall, Suebeth Baumgartner, David Neal, and Chris Mortenson. The reading is under the direction of Michael T. Mooney, the founder of the 4A's, who studied theatre in the round with Sir Alan in Scarborough, England. Admission is $5.00. Reservations are not required. During May, the year-long series of events will feature the American premiere of IMPROBABLE FICTION, Ayckbourn's 69th play, a fast-paced look at a writer's circle that suffers from collective writer's block - until their creations come to comically life onstage. Also in May, the 4A's will present a reading of Ayckbourn's GAMEPLAN, part of his DAMSELS IN DISTRESS trilogy. The anniversary year will conclude with a fall workshop titled "50/50" - a look back at the 15 Chester productions featuring scenes, monologues, and anecdotes from the author's life, as well as a reading of the play MAN OF THE MOMENT in November. This season also marks the Chester Theatre Group's 50th anniversary.Videos
