Philadelphia-born Vivian Green shot to stardom in 2002 with her smash single "Emotional Rollercoaster," and if her career has also been a rollercoaster- it's been a heckuva ride. Between recording several albums, and composing for stage, film and television this multi-talented artist has a rich career that shows no signs of stopping. Vivian Green will be performing at the South Orange Performing Arts Center on Saturday, November 24 at 8 p.m.
Vivian Green took to songwriting at a young age and began performing at the age of thirteen with the female group Younique. She honed her craft writing for artists such as Boyz II Men and her big break came when she went on tour with the legendary Jill Scott at nineteen. After the tour, Vivian Green teamed up with Grammy Award-nominated Eric Roberson to create the demo that would go on to land her a deal with Sony Music.
Her debut album, A Love Story, dropped in 2002 with the smash hits "Emotional Rollercoaster," "Fanatics" and "What is Love?" Her second album, Vivian, dropped three years later in 2005 with the no. 1 Adult Contemporary Dance hits "Gotta Go Gotta Leave (Tired)" and "Cursed."
Vivian Green has several notable features and collaborations to her credit. Determined to make her mark, she made her film debut in the Oscar-nominated biopic De Lovely. She also appeared in the TV Series American Dreams, portraying Brenda Hollaway singing "Every Little Bit Hurts." Vivian Green wrote the songs for playwright-filmmaker David. E. Talbert's stage play Love in the Nick of Thyme. She is featured on Cyndi Lauper's album The Body Acoustic.
She has now come back to her roots and in 2014 she released her first studio album in almost a decade, Vivid, which yielded the no.2 hit "Get Right Back to My Baby." Her 2017 album, VGVI, has earned her the highest chart entry in over a decade to the Billboard Top R&B / Hip-Hop Albums chart and brought her a top 10 single, "I Don't Know," on the R&B charts.
