The Visual Arts Center of New Jersey recently announced Cassandra Demski as the new Director of the Art Center's Studio School. A museum professional with more than a decade of experience, Demski has worked at several non-profit organizations in the areas of programming and education and has taught in museum galleries and facilitated studio-based art instruction.
"We are so excited to have Cassandra leading our Studio School program," said Melanie Cohn, Executive Director of the Visual Arts Center of New Jersey. "Her expertise in arts education and management will benefit all of our students."
Ms. Demski began her work in the museum field in the education departments at Waterloo Village, Historic Speedwell, and the New Jersey Historical Society. From 2007-2010, she was a Museum Educator [SY1] at the Newark Museum, where she coordinated and executed programs for the museum's Centennial Celebration. In 2010, Ms. Demski became Curator of Education at Grounds for Sculpture, where she managed and evaluated all museum programming, including studio-based workshops, tours, and school programs. During her tenure, she was actively involved in developing programs for special needs audiences for which she secured numerous grants.[SY2] In addition, she annually curated several community-sourced exhibitions in the museum's Education Gallery. The impact of Ms. Demski's work has been widely recognized: In 2014, she won both the Arts Council of Princeton's Partnership Award and the Cultural Access Network Project's Innovator Award, and in 2018, the Discover Jersey Arts' People's Choice Award for Favorite Adult Art Class.
