In his own quiet way, jazz drummer Glenn Davis provided rock solid support not only for the many musicians with whom he worked, but for the friends and family who were devoted to him. Many of them will gather at the Delaware Water Gap's Deer Head Inn for a celebration of his life and a fund raiser for the American Parkinson Disease Association on Thursday, October 11 from 7:00 until 11:00 p.m.
Glenn, who grew up in Somerville, was affiliated with the Music Department of Lafayette College for more than 30 years. Most importantly, he had an illustrious career working with many of the greatest names in jazz. He toured and recorded with the legendary Marian McPartland for more than two decades, and also worked with guitarist Harry Leahey, pianist John Coates Jr., pianist Mike Melillo, saxophonist Stan Getz, pianist Jerry Vezza, pianist Phil Markowitz, and pianist Bernard Peiffer just to name a few.
The celebration for Glenn has already attracted a long list of artists who will be part of a jam session led by guitarist Bill Washer who was a member of the Absolut Trio which included Glenn and bassist Paul Rostock. Some of the musicians planning to attend are Phil Markowitz, Barry Mitterhoff, Bennie Wallace, Bob Doherty, Frank Noviello, Hal Slapin, Pat Dorian, Rich Messbauer, Rick Crane, Ron Glick, Roy Cumming, Tom Sayek, Jerry Vezza, and Walt Bibinger. The October 11th event will raise money for the American Parkinson's Disease Association and pay tribute to a much beloved man. The Deer Head Inn is conveniently located at 5 Main Street in Delaware Water Gap, Pennsylvania on Route 611.
