Tower of Power With Special Guest Average White Band
For close to five decades, Tower of Power has delivered the best in Rhythm and Blues music. To date, the group has featured over 60 different members in its many incarnations since forming over 40 years ago. They have recorded with Elton John, Smokey Robinson, Rod Stewart, Dionne Warwick and have influenced a generation of musicians. The horn section from Tower of Power has made guest appearances with The Monkees, The Grateful Dead, Santana, Cat Stevens, Elton John, Jermaine Jackson, Rod Stewart, Jefferson Starship, Huey Lewis and the News and Aerosmith, among many other recording artists.
The band is recognized as having some of the finest rhythm and brass sections in the world of funk music. Their signature song "So Very Hard to Go" was featured in the film soundtracks of "City of God (2002)" and "Semi-Pro (2008)". The band appeared on Josh Groban's 2006 album "Awake." In 2013, Ray Greene joined the band as new lead vocalist performing with the band for the first time on New Year's Eve in Lincoln, CA. Tower of Power joined Journey and the Steve Miller Band for San Francisco Fest Tour in 2014 for the first time ever.
Average White Band:
AWB are widely regarded as one of the best soul and funk bands in the history of music. Though best known for their timeless instrumental mega-hit 'Pick Up the Pieces' the band's strength actually lay in their consistently accomplished song-writing, stretching across several gold selling albums and multi- Grammy nominations for the legendary Atlantic Records. Somewhat incongruously, given their Scottish roots, the six piece took the influences of their R&B; heroes - people like Marvin Gaye, James Brown, Donny Hathaway and others - and developed their own 'authentic' sound which was eagerly adopted by black audiences in the US and elsewhere. While a good number of cuts - 'Cut The Cake' and 'Let's Go Round Again'- became hit singles, many other album tracks, like 'Schoolboy Crush' and 'Stop The Rain' became much sampled grooves. Many more tunes, such as 'Cloudy', and 'A Love Of Your Own'- amongst many others- stand alongside some of the finest soul 'album tracks' ever recorded.
Cinderella's Tom Keifer
"A gritty, bluesy, (rocker) with enough genuine swagger to draw comparisons to Mick Jagger." Rolling Stone Magazine
Best known as the singer-songwriter/ front man of the Philadelphia based blues- rock band Cinderella, Tom Keifer, is enjoying continued success and touring in support of his solo debut, The Way Life Goes.
Though he possesses all the fire and brimstone of Rock's greatest front men, you would be hard pressed to find the versatility and dimension that Keifer brings to a stage.
Whether delivering heart wrenching ballads, such as Don't Know What You Got 'til It's Gone, channeling the soul of the bluesmen of the past with his slide guitar and lap steel, or blowing sax on rockers like "Shelter Me", Keifer is clearly one of the most unique singers and accomplished musicians in Rock and Roll. Combine that with his new band, who Keifer refers to as "The biggest bunch of badasses on the planet," consisting of Paul Taylor (Keyboards/vocals), Tony Higbee (Guitar/vocals), Billy Mercer (Bass/vocals), Paul Simmons (Drums/vocals), Savannah Keifer (Vocals/percussion) and Kendra Chantelle (Vocals/percussion), and there is only one possible outcome- A high energy rock show combining all the classic hits of Cinderella with new favorites from The Way Life Goes that will only leave you wanting more.
