The New Year is here, and Valentine's Day is right around the corner!
To celebrate, Theater To Go is presenting LOVE IS IN THE AIR- 4 Staged Play Readings about LOVE at the 1867 Sanctuary at Ewing over 4 Friday nights in February and March. As part of its ongoig collaboration with the 1867 Sanctuary at Ewing, the region's newest Center for the Arts, Theater To Go will return on Fridays in February and March for LOVE IS IN THE AIR, 4 Staged Readings Of Plays About Love. Each Friday will bring a different Play, 2 from established playwrights and two by emerging playwrights. The new plays were selected to complement the known plays and it is hoped that audiences will come to all four readings to discuss the similarities and differences in the themes and styles of each play. These staged readings will be directed by Steve Gaissert for Theater To Go and will feature talk backs and refreshments after each performance. The schedule is as follows:
Feb 3, 2017- ROMANTIC COMEDY: Written by renowned playwright, Bernard Slade (Tony Award nominated for Same Time, Next Year)
Phoebe Craddock and Jason Carmichael, playwrights who meet and decide to collaborate just as he is getting married. Their relationship produces first a failure and then a string of successes, and their repartée remains sharp and witty as their unrequited interest in each other gathers energy over a nine-year period, until some resolution finally is in sight ROMANTIC COMEDY opened on Broadway in November 1979, and ran for 396 performances.
Feb 10, 2017- THE PLAYMAKERS: A new Play by Julie Zaffarano (winner of Best New Work WIP Play Fest 2016)
Lisa and Sebastian were a successful romantic comedy playwriting team, and lovers, whose professional and personal relationship crashed and burned. After several years apart, they are thrown together by a producer to revive a play. As they try to recapture their signature spark, the characters in the play revolt and the line between reality and fantasy disappears. This new comedy will have you laughing in the aisles
Feb 17, 2017- OVER THE RIVER AND THROUGH THE WOODS: By Joe DiPietro best known for the Tony Award-winning musical Memphis, as well as for writing the book and lyrics for the long-running off-Broadway show I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change.
Nick is a single, Italian-American guy from New Jersey. His parents retired and moved to Florida. That doesn't mean his family isn't still in Jersey. In fact, he sees both sets of his grandparents every Sunday for dinner. This is routine until he has to tell them that he's been offered a dream job that would take him away from his beloved, but annoying, grandparents. He tells them. The news doesn't sit so well. Thus begins a series of schemes to keep Nick around
Mar. 3, 2017- LAWN ORNAMENTS: by Mark Wiesenberg of Utah. This is Mark's first full length play
Mildred and Arthur are on a quest to marry off their son Peter. With a plan up their sleeves and the help of many lawn ornaments, Peter's parents are on the offensive. But Peter has different plans and some difficult decisions to make. And then there's Sarah, Peter's on-again, off-again girlfriend. It's a play abouT Loving relationships, the ups and downs of life, and creating landscapes of meaningful memories!
Theater To Go welcomes Steve Gaissert who will be directing the readings. He recently directed Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike at The College of New Jersey. Steve has directed each year since 2013 for the One-Minute Play Festival which tours nationwide year-round, and in which the NJ performances have been staged at Passage Theater in Trenton, and the Luna Stage in West Orange. He also directed a workshop reading of Edmonia for the Passage Theater Play Lab.
Theater To Go is pleased to be partnering with Mercer County's newest performing arts space, The 1867 Sanctuary, the Region's Historic Haven for Arts and Culture (www.1867sanctuary.org) to bring a variety of theatrical events to the venue. In addition to Love is in the Air, Theater To Go presented a staged reading of The Trial Of Abraham Hunt, and American Christmas Story by Michael Davis as part of Trenton Patriots Week in December, and Emily Roebling: The Woman Who Saved the Brooklyn Bridge in October. More staged readings are being planned.
Theater To Go was started in 1992 by Ruth Markoe and has been providing quality entertainment in NJ and regionally since then. It is best known for audience participation murder mysteries and other interactive comedy theater however has expanded to include full length plays and staged readings.
Most recently, Theater To Go produced Mark Violi's historical drama Roebling: The Story of the Brooklyn Bridge, which tells the remarkable story of the dedication and adversities of the Roebling family, with roots in NJ, that brought this magnificent national icon to New York. Under the direction of Ruth Markoe, this full length play was recently performed to sold out audiences at Kelsey Theatre in West Windsor NJ. Other recent productions include the acclaimed Cat On A Hot Tin Roof, The 39 Steps and Room Service at Kelsey Theatre.In March, Theater To Go will present To Kill A Mocckingbird at Kelsey Theatre in West Windsor NJ
