Families are invited to take a musical journey into African-American history when Theatre IV presents "Songs from the Soul" at Mercer County Community College's Kelsey Theatre Saturday, March 28 at 2 and 4 p.m. Kelsey Theatre is located on the college's West Windsor campus, 1200 Old Trenton Road.
Presented with a mix of humor and reverence, "Songs for the Soul" is a revue of African-American music from slave songs to jazz to blues to rap. The show is not only toe-tapping entertainment, but also provides a vital history lesson that teaches pride, responsibility and respect. The songs illuminate both the past and present as audience members learn of the music's transformative impact on American culture. The show is based on a book by William Dye with music and lyrics by various artists.
Theatre IV is a nonprofit, professional theatre for young audiences. Since 1975 the company has toured from Wisconsin to Florida and Texas to Maine, while also presenting major productions in its home city of Richmond, Va.
Tickets are $8 for children, students and senior citizens, and $10 for adults. Free parking is available next to the theater.
