The Theater Project is now accepting submissions of original works from students for this year's 13th annual Young Playwrights Competition. Entries are due by 1/20/15.

The goal of the Young Playwrights' Competition is to encourage the next generation of theater practitioners and audience by honoring their work and bringing it to life. The competition was inspired by a generous donation from Bill Mesce, Jr. Linden resident Mesce is an award-winning playwright and screenwriter; his novel The Advocate was published by Bantam Books.

Over the last 2 years, we have added a free workshop on the day of the ceremonies to encourage all participants, regardless of whether they are award winners or not, to benefit from the experience. We pick up pizza for the entrants and offer one on one session with theater professionals (writers, directors, producers, etc.) to review and discuss their submitted work. This has been a great success and a lot of fun for everyone involved.

Last year The Theater Project held its first ever Young Filmmakers Competition. The two separate competitions will recognize outstanding contributions in ceremonies in March (Young Playwrights) and May (Young Filmmakers).
