The ShowRoom, Asbury Park's cinema and performance space, will host the premier performance of Thirst-E Productions' adaptation of "Closer." Running from Thursday, April 8 to Saturday, April 10, the bold play, which won awards when it ran in London and on Broadway, and was adapted into an Oscar-nominated movie in 2004, now makes its home at The ShowRoom for this limited engagement.
After losing its former space in Eatontown, Thirst-e Productions had a difficult time finding a venue that would be comfortable hosting the risqué performance; centering on themes of love, sex, infidelity and heartbreak. The play is billed as a dark comedy that explores the great need to love and to be loved in return. The ShowRoom, which is earning a reputation as a bold and intriguing performance venue, was eager to collaborate with Thirst-e Productions and welcomed the company's production of "Closer."
Thirst-e Productions, a labor of love for some dedicated theater folk, strives to present exciting, outside-the-box productions for the Monmouth County theatergoer. Its first production, "Closer" stars a group of young, local actors: Anthony Younes, of Holmdel; Tammy Owens, of Cliffwood Beach; Samantha Ambler of Long Branch; CJ Nolan of Atlantic Highlands; and a local director as well, Steve Hirsekorn of Neptune City. The ability to host small, live theater and dedication to Monmouth County makes The ShowRoom an ideal location for the company's premier production.
"Closer" runs April 8 and 9 at 8:00 p.m. and April 10 at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are $20 and are available at 732-495-9591 or on www.eBay.com (Item # 250593561015). To learn more about The ShowRoom, please visit www.theshowroomap.com or call 732-502-0472.
