"We are proud to announce our presentation of the venerable musical classic, of both screen and stage: Disney's Mary Poppins! It's the perfect summer show, a great story that's engaging for the whole family." explains Ritz Theatre Co. Producing Artistic Director Bruce Curless. "Plus it fulfills our mission of bringing quality story telling to our community. We are also thrilled that the show is directed by Brian Rivell, who is both a veteran actor and director here at The Ritz, and who specifically requested to direct this show for The Ritz!"

Hang on to your kite as we invite you to join us here at The Ritz Theatre Co. on a London romp as Disney's Mary Poppins comes to our theatre! A great family night out, this movie musical classic is one to be shared and shared again! Remember it from your childhood and share it as an adult. And yes - she flies! Every tune, every melody comes to life again - A Spoonful of Sugar, Chim ChimCher-ee, Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious, and all of your favorites!

The film Mary Poppins is a 1964 American musical-fantasy film directed by Robert Stevenson and produced by Walt Disney, with songs written and composed by The Sherman Brothers. The screenplay is by Bill Walsh and Don DaGradi, loosely based on P. L. Travers's book series Mary Poppins. The film, which combines live-action and animation, stars Julie Andrews in her feature film debut as Mary Poppins, who visits a dysfunctional family in London and employs her unique brand of lifestyle to improve the family's dynamic. Dick Van Dyke, David Tomlinson, and Glynis Johns are featured in supporting roles. The film was shot entirely at the Walt Disney Studios in Burbank, California using painted London background scenes.

Mary Poppins was released on August 27, 1964, to critical acclaim. It received a total of thirteen Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture - a record for any other film released by Walt Disney Studios - and won five; Best Actress for Andrews, Best Film Editing, Best Original Music Score, Best Visual Effects, and Best Original Song for "Chim Chim Cher-ee." In 2013, the film was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant." Mary Poppins is widely considered to be Walt Disney's crowning live-action achievement, his only film to gain a Best Picture nomination at the Oscars in his lifetime.*

The Ritz Theatre Company was founded over thirty years ago to bring live, quality, professional productions to our region ... and we're still doing it today!

Throughout our history, we've aspired to make theatre accessible to everyone, to entertain our audiences with favorites, to challenge them (and ourselves) with complex works, to provide on-stage training for actors, to introduce kids to the magic of live theatre, and to help restore the historic building we call our home.

Managed by our staff, supported by a dedicated volunteer base, bolstered by our loyal subscribers, guided by our board of directors, and sustained by our generous sponsors and donors, the Ritz remains a gem in the community we gratefully serve.
