The show uses clothing and accessories and the memories they trigger to create funny and memorable stories that all women can relate to. It is a guaranteed enjoyable theatre experience for everyone.
I think everyone can remember what they wore at important moments of their life. The thought of those clothes can bring back emotions that take us back to that moment in time. When Ms Beckerman wrote her book it was originally a vehicle for her to tell her grandchildren a bit about her life and who she had been. It was a window into her life that she wanted to leave them. She wanted them to know she was not just the old woman they saw but that she had been young, full of life, beautiful and stylish. She had loved and been loved. She had heartbreak and unbelievable joy. Her clothes had been a part of that experience. The book struck a chord with those who read it becoming a best seller and was expanded into a play by Nora and Delia Ephron.
Women of all ages will be able to relate to this. There are common experiences that tie us together and bind us. Although it is a show by women about women, bring the men in your life. In New York the men laughed just as loud if not louder than the women. Women laugh in recognition of shared experiences. Men laugh as they get a peek into a world that they didn't know existed.
