The Theater Company of Hoboken (TTC) will close out it regular season with the musical THE ME THAT NOBODY KNOWS. TONY-nominated and OBIE Award-winning, THE ME NOBODY KNOWS is a ground-breaking musical adapted by Robert H. Livingston and Herb Shapiro, with music by Gary William Friedan, and Lyrics by Will Holt and Shapiro, as directed by veteran TTC director Margaret Leone. Performances will be June 7, 8, 9, 14, 15 &16.
Within the envelope of a single day, the show "poetically examines the aspirations and fears of a multi-racial cast of young people. Inspired by actual writings of underprivileged children who lived in Manhattan, the Bronx, Harlem and Bedford Stuyvesant in 1970‘s, the stories are universal, and can be shared by and with all races. Note: some adult language and situations."
“Our children are supposed to inherit the earth not carry the weight of the world with them so that by the time they are 18 they are already tired,” notes director Leone. “How can it be that the same stories from the 70’s followed us right into the ‘New Millennium,’ adding in a myriad of things like cyber bullying, school shootings, crack and AIDS? My goal with this production is to open as many eyes, minds and hearts as possible. The moving score and emotional driving book introduced me to the notion ‘Our kids need our help!’ back when I saw it when I was a teen. Now I am using it to illustrate that life in the ghetto and slums of the 70s is not too far off from ‘the Hood’ of today. This production may not change anything, but it will definitely be an entertaining and educating act of awareness for all ages and all people.”
The cast of THE ME NOBODY KNOWS features: Rachel Aryn, Nick D’Amato, Lawrence Dandridge, Samille Ganges, Khari Hughes, Deenie Hutchinson, Samuel D. Olmedo, Mariah Sade Ralph, Reny Rosado, Kayla Moné Steward, and Jason Vinciguerra. High resolution production stills available.
