Take three delicious, malicious and very desperate housewives, add three miserable, unloving husbands - and chill. That's the recipe of Michele Lowe's tantalizing comedy The Smell of the Kill, which will be presented next on stage at The Theater Project, Union County College's Professional Theater Company, April 2 through April 19.
This wickedly funny dark comedy abut men, women, marriage and malice will be staged by Artistic Director Mark Spina and will feature a cast three New Jersey stage favorites Victoria Steele of West Caldwell (as well as a Montclair State alum), Harriett Trangucci of Summit and Barbara Guidi of Scotch Plains.
The Smell of the Kill revolves around Nicky, Debra and Molly who have tolerated one another during once-a-month dinners for years. While their unseen spouses play golf in the dining room, the women exchange confidences for the first time revealing that all three marriages are on the brink of disaster. When the men mistakenly lock themselves in a basement meat locker the women get to decide -- leave the men out in the cold or let them thaw? Roma Torre, NY 1 News calls The Smell of the Kill, "A very funny guilty pleasure," while The Advocate raves, "Effective black comedies are rare these days and this is a rich torte...it has a superb crustiness which supplies an evening of nearly continuous laughter."
