South Camden Theatre Company, a nonprofit professional theatre organization located in Camden, New Jersey continues its eleventh season and second decade of theatre in the city with a one-act play festival titled SHADOWS OF WAR. Comprised of four different plays, these stories portray American veterans from World War II through Afghanistan. The festival opens March 18, 2016 at 8p.m. with four performances through Sunday March 20.

The plays selected for the festival are AND SO IT GOES written by Sheila McDonald and directed by Ruth Brown which portrays a young Afghanistan veteran who is visited by his girlfriend who has been avoiding him. UNFORTUNATE SONS written by Tom Tunnington and directed by Dan Hickey shows a difficult decision made by a soldier in Vietnam. D-DAY AGAIN written by Martin Lentz and directed by Scott R. Grumbling shows two World War II veterans now living in a nursing home and their decision to join their fellow D-Day soldiers. Finally PURPLE HEARTS an award winning play written by Joseph M. Paprzycki and directed by Nicole Lerario portrays a Korean veteran in a VA hospital who comes to a realization that a "vet is a vet" after meeting his male orderly. PURPLE HEARTS previously won the Wordsmith Competition award from the VSA Arts of New Jersey and the Unlimited Potential Theater Company.

South Camden Theatre Company is partnering with Backpacks for Life a 501(c)3 New Jersey based nonprofit that provides homeless veterans with backpacks containing toiletries and other life essentials. Founder and Afghanistan veteran Sgt. Brett D'Alessandro, USMC will be in the lobby at Waterfront South Theatre collecting donations and socks for the backpacks during the Saturday March 20 performances at 2:00p.m and 8:00p.m.

Producing Artistic Director Joseph M. Paprzycki states, "We all have veterans in our lives and I am dedicating this production to my father Corporal Bronislaw Paprzycki who was awarded a Purple Heart after being wounded in the Korean War and lived his life as a disabled veteran. My hope is we all honor the veterans in our own families with this production and show true appreciation for the many sacrifices they have made. When I saw Sgt. D'Alessandro interviewed on NJTV News last year I reached out directly to ask him to partner with South Camden Theatre Company for this important festival and am thrilled he will be able to join us and let our audience help homeless veterans."

All performances will be held Friday and Saturday evening at 8:00 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. at the 96-seat Waterfront South Theatre located at 400 Jasper Street in Camden, New Jersey. Tickets are available for purchase for $20 online at http://www.southcamdentheatre.org, by calling 1-866-811-4111 or at the door.
