High school seniors in Bergen County have a new opportunity to get a little help as they move on to their college careers. Skyline Theatre Company (STC) is now offering a $1000.00 cash scholarship to support Bergen County students who will be furthering their education majoring in theatre, television, film, or communications. The Harry K. Berkheiser Jr. Scholarship, named for New Jersey educator and founding STC member Harry K. Berkheiser Jr., will be awarded yearly to a Bergen County high school senior who has a true passion for, and will be furthering his or her higher education in these art forms. Any Bergen County high school senior intending to major in theatre, television, film or communications may submit an application, which can be found on the STC website (www.skylinetheatrecompany.org - Education menu). The deadline for all applications is March 15, 2010. The Scholarship will be presented at the company's annual fundraiser, Broadway for the Arts, an evening of cabaret with Broadway singers, fine dining, and silent and live auctions, to be held at Biagio's Ristorante in Paramus on April 18, 2010.

"Harry was an amazing inspiration to all of the students and teachers he worked with throughout his career," says Sam Scalamoni, STC Managing Artistic Director. "Through generous donations from his family, friends and colleagues, we are able to extend this scholarship for young people who show a true commitment and dedication to these branches of the arts." Mr. Berkheiser passed away on October 9, 2007.
