Skyline Theatre Company, Bergen County's most established professional theatre company and in residence at the Fair Lawn Community Center in Bergen County's Fair Lawn, announces its 15th anniversary 2016-2017 season featuring both a Tony Award® winning musical and play.
Its first production of the season will be the Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice Tony Award® winner for Best Musical, Evita - a re-telling of how MarÃa Eva Duarte de Perón, a common poor Argentinian girl, rises to be the First Lady of her country and is worshipped by her people. It will be directed by Artistic Director Sam Scalamoni and presented Friday, September 30 at 7:30pm; Saturday, October 1 at 7:30pm, and Sunday, October 2 at 2:00pm.
Its second production is This Wonderful Life, written by Steve Murray. Proving that one man really can make a difference in the world, this is a hilariously touching stage adaptation of the iconic film "It's a Wonderful Life" in which one actor inhabits virtually every character from the movie. Back by popular demand after its 2015 premiere, it will be presented for one performance only on Thursday, December 15 at 7:30pm.
In early 2017, Skyline will once again present a brand new and original musical production as part of the state-wide New Jersey Theatre Alliance 2017 Stages Festival. The production will premiere on Friday, March 17 at 7:00pm and will be followed by an audience talk-back with the piece's authors, performers and directors.
The following month, Skyline's annual gala concert, Broadway in Bergen, featuring an evening of performances by today's brightest Broadway performers, will be held the evening of April 3, 2017. This is Skyline's one-night-only benefit concert to support the organization's educational and mainstage programming.
Rounding out the season will be the Pulitzer Prize-winning and Tony Award® for Best Play winner Doubt: A Parable, written by John Patrick Shanley. This psychological drama challenges audiences to consider whether or not a charismatic Catholic priest crosses the line with the school's first African-American student. It will be presented Friday, May 5 at 7:30pm; Saturday, May 6 at 7:30pm; and Sunday, May 7 at 2:00pm.
"This is a truly exceptional season for us at Skyline Theatre Company as we celebrate our 15th anniversary. In addition to presenting well-known and award-winning productions, the themes could not be more relevant for today's audiences. Moreover, we are thrilled to deliver on our mission of entertaining and inspiring our audiences in all that we do throughout our 2016-2017 season" said Sam Scalamoni, Skyline's Artistic Director.
