"Songs for a New World" celebrates the great diversity amongst the performing arts students at Rahway High School but also highlights that which makes us the same.
This musical which opened Off-Broadway in 1995 is unique in that it is a series of songs connected by a central theme but does not hold to a storyline. "Songs for a New World" presents diverse characters at various times and situations facing different choices. The element of choice unifies the piece. The work's composer and lyricist, Jason Robert Brown, has said "It's about one moment. It's about hitting the wall and having to make a choice, or take a stand, or turn around and go back."
Students from the musical theater class at Rahway High School, under the direction of Alison Dooley and Robert Van Wyk, will perform Jason Robert Brown's musical "Songs for a New World" on Friday, January 11th and Saturday, January 12th at 7:30 pm on the stage of the Center for the Performing Arts at Rahway High School.
