Prospect Theater Company presents a developmental performance of new musical shorts by some of NYC's most exciting emerging musical theater writers, the result of work created in the company's 7th annual musical theater lab.
Explore a new landscape. Travel at lightening speed. Connect the past to the present. There are billions of images from the Google Street View Car available online, and each one is a door to an untold story. Join Prospect for an evening of eight short, original musicals inspired by images captured by the Google Car camera, and created by the sixteen writers in this year's musical theater lab.
Performances are at the West End Theatre in the Church of St. Paul and St. Andrew ( 263 West 86th St .). Tickets are $18 and may be purchased by calling 212-352-3101 or by visiting www.ProspectTheater.org.
The eight participating writing teams in the 2014 lab were selected through a competitive, open application process. In January, each team was assigned an image taken by the Google Street View Car which would serve as the inspiration for an original short musical. These eight new pieces will be workshopped with actors during February and March and presented together in a single evening. The 2014 lab features short original musicals written by: Nathan Brisby & Lizzie Hagstedt, Ty Defoe & Tidtaya Sinutoke, Julia Gytri & Avi Amon, Anna Marquardt & Britt Bonney, Jason Purdy & Yan Li, Sharyn Rothstein & Cody Owen Stine, Jenny Stafford & Willem Oosthuysen, and Christina Quintana & Brett Macias. Detailed writer biographies follow.
