Princeton's Famous Triangle Club is proud to present the world premiere of its brand new original musical-comedy extravaganza, Tropic Blunder, at the Matthews Theatre Auditorium of the Tony Award-winning McCarter Theatre Center, located in Princeton, NJ. Shows will be held November 13-14 at 8:00 PM and November 15 at 2:00 PM. There will be a talkback with Triangle members and their professional mentors after the Sunday matinee.
Tropipop soda sales have gone flat, and in a last ditch effort to add some fizz, the company holds a raffle for an all-expenses-paid island getaway. Just one problem: the island is cursed! Pirates, mermaids, ukulele players, and a love triangle are all featured as the contest winners try to escape from this getaway gone awry. Topped off with Triangle's famous all-male kickline, Tropic Blunder will have you rolling in the isles.
For 125 years the Princeton Triangle Club has been creating professionally-produced, original student- written musicals in "The House that Triangle Built" now known as McCarter Theatre. In fact, it has the distinction of being the oldest touring (as well as the oldest co-ed) collegiate musical-comedy troupe in the nation, and the only co-ed collegiate troupe to take their show on a national tour each year. It is an intense commitment that is a constant work in progess, with students on all sides devoting huge chunks of their time to the show. It is the college version of Saturday Night Live, with constant revision from 12 writers, long technical crew building and running sessions, frequent rehearsals with a cast of 25 and an interactive pit band, and 15 students trying to sell the show at all hours. However, the product that is the Triangle Show at the end of this process is beyond compare, and extremely gratifying for all 5 sides (cast, orchestra, tech, writing, and business) of the triangle.
The Club boasts a rich history, and long list of alumni who have graduated to eminence in the creative arts, including F. Scott Fitzgerald '17, Jimmy Stewart '32, Jose Ferrer '34, Wayne Rogers '56, Clark Gesner '60, Jeff Moss '63, David Kelley '79, Brooke Shields '87, Wentworth Miller '95, Ellie Kemper '02, and Molly Ephraim '08. The club's 70 current members have diverse academic interests from astrophysics to economics, public policy to literature, and many plan on pursuing professional theater in some capacity.
