"The Playwrights Showcase" - a program of five, new, one-act plays - will be presented at The Players' Guild of Leonia Civil War Drill Hall Theatre for one weekend only - tonight, June 28 through Sunday, June 30, 2013.
Show time will be 8 p.m. tonight, June 28 and Saturday, June 29, and the Sunday June 30 matinee will be at 3 p.m. Tickets are $20 ($18 for seniors and students) and can be purchased online at the group's website: www.leoniaplayers.org or by calling 201-947-9606. The theatre address is 130 Grand Avenue, Leonia, NJ.
The Players' Guild of Leonia is one of the oldest continuously active community-theatre groups in the country, and "The Playwrights Showcase" is the traditional end-of-season production for the group, now in its 93rd year.
The group performs in the historic Civil War Drill Hall, where there are fewer than one hundred seats, but they're all within ten feet of the stage. Some of the participants in this year's program have been active within the group for decades, while new members join every year to work backstage, present new and old plays, perform, and produce.
This season's "Playwrights Showcase" features five new plays, five different playwrights, five different directors and five different casts. The actors, directors, and producers, all North Jersey residents, are pictured above on the deck outside their theatre.
The five plays are:
"A Lot of Hair" (by Arie Moller, directed by Angela Cozzi)
"The Answer" (by Cary Pepper, directed by Linda Wielkotz)
"Abe and Ed" (by Tom Tunnington, directed by Vince Parrillo)
"The Coup" (by Kathleen Clark, directed by Helene Marshall)
"The Mall Session" (by D.A. Arnold, directed by Dori Persson)
The group always tries to present a mixture of comedy and drama, light-hearted and serious themes, young actors and old in "The Playwrights Showcase" and they plan to continue their long tradition in the program this year.
