On Saturday, May 7th, McCarter Theatre Center will host its annual Gala Benefit, which supports McCarter's many ongoing artistic and educational missions here in Princeton and around the region. This year's gala is fashioned on the theme of Truman Capote's 1960s "Black and White Ball," with offerings including a silent auction; a post-concert party complete with music and dancing; as well as other surprises for attendees.

The highlight of the Gala is a feature performance by Lang Lang, the international Grammy Award-winning pianist who has played everywhere from the White House to the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Lang's playing is a singular experience whether it be in intimate recitals or on the grandest of stages. He has built cultural bridges between East and West, frequently introducing Chinese music to Western audiences, and vice versa. Of many landmark events, he was honored to perform recently for President Obama and former President Hu Jin-Tao of China at the White House State Dinner, as well as at the Diamond Jubilee celebratory concert for Queen Elizabeth II at Buckingham Palace.

For his McCarter appearance, Lang will be performing some of his favorite selections, including Chopin's Waltz No.1 and The Four Scherzos, Liszt's Liebestraum, selections from Tchaikovsky's The Seasons, Op. 37, and more.

Under Emily Mann's artistic direction and Bill Lockwood's flair for booking established and emerging talent, McCarter has consistently demonstrated an unwavering commitment to engaging, entertaining and educating its audiences. In addition to the outstanding work appearing on McCarter's two stages each season, the Theatre also offers numerous innovative educational outreach programs that serve as many as 20,000 students a year - many that may not otherwise have access to the arts.

The 2016 Gala Co-Chairs are Paula Chow and Victoria Hamilton of Princeton, and Cheryl Goldman of Titusville.
