New Jersey's answer to the now gone performance space of Steinway Hall on 57th street is Forte Piano in Paramus N.J. Forte Piano is one of the foremost piano dealers in the nation and it's owner, Jazz/Classical pianist Vladimir Zaslavsky presented the Dixie Rascals Sextet in concert in Forte Piano's concert space at 159 W.Rt 4 last night. As it was in Steinway Hall, you guide your way through the maze of some of the finest pianos on the planet (Bosendorfer, Schimmel, Kawai) and then enjoy the concert.
The Dixie Rascals Sextet under the leadership of Barry Bryson (trumpet) came from New York City but they sure sounded like they made the trip to New Jersey from New Orleans as the swinging sound of their Dixieland Jazz kept the the Jersey audience jumping. Legendary pianist such as Van Cliburn, Horowitz, and Sergi Rachmaninoff chose their pianos from the Steinway Hall selection for their concerts. I'm sure Vladimir Horowitz would have travelled to see Vladimir Zaslavsky at Forte Piano existed back in the day.
