Phoenix Productions will present its revival of Gypsy at the Count Basie Theatre in Red Bank for a two-weekend run beginning September 16th.
Referred to as the greatest American musical by many critics, Gypsy is the ultimate true story about an aggressive stage mother. Join Rose, June and Louise in their trip across the United States during the 1920's, when vaudeville was dying and burlesque was born. Jule Styne's music and Stephen Sondheim's lyrics include lots of unforgettable standards like "Everything's Coming Up Roses", "You Gotta Get a Gimmick", "Together Wherever We Go,"and, of course, "Let Me Entertain You".
Featured in the cast are Loretta Boyle as the domineering Momma Rose, Kate Pentek as her daughter Louise who grows into burlesque star Gypsy Rose Lee, and Miranda Franco as the bubbly and favored daughter, Dainty June. Tom Shewchuk appears as the stage agent Herbie, and Chris Lorenc plays the charming newsboy Tulsa. Featured as the "strippers with a gimmick" are Sara McNeil the ballerina burlesque dancer Tessie Tura, Mikayla Petrilla as Electra the "shining"electric stripper, and Jessica Fisher as Mazeppa the "revolutionary" trumpeting stripper.
