On March 23 and 24, 68 Productions will present Summer Dawn Hortillosa's "Before, After and Always," a one-act play for two actors divided into three parts. The romantic comedy will be part of STAGEfest at the Landmark Loew's Jersey Theatre in Journal Square. It will be staged in an unconventional performance space, the upstairs left lobby of the historic movie palace at 3 pm and 7:45 pm March 23 and at 2:45 pm March 24.
All-day passes are $10 except on Saturday, when they cost $15. All-weekend passes are available for $25, $20 for students and seniors. Tickets can be purchased online at BrownPaperTickets.com, where you can also find a full schedule.Tickets are $5 more at the door.
The heartwarming play explores three relationship stages ("Before," "After," and "Always") in three short scenes, two of which were inspired by original short stories by Hortillosa. "Be Longing," the finale, was written especially for the show.
These are the scenes, each based on a short story.
Good bye (Before): Two near-strangers loosely linked by four mutual friends share a magical moment as they bid each other good-bye, changing their lives forever. Long Lost Love Song (After): A man's dreams of his past lover leave him hot, cold and confused. Does love take work or does it just happen? Be Longing (Always): A man and a woman can't get over how good their burned-out relationship actually was. During a chance encounter, they must decide what to do with their love.
The play stars Hortillosa and Sergio Caetano. Hortillosa will direct with help from assistant director Liliane Wolf.
The inaugural STAGEfest at the Loew's is a vibrant and diverse weekend of theatrical and musical performances, highlighting and celebrating the arts in our region. Performances will take advantage of many spaces in the Loew's -- the mainstage, lobbies, salons, promenades and hallways. Tasty local refreshments will be available at the Grand Lobby Cafe, and an extraordinary display of theatrical costume will enhance this immersive experience.
