New Jersey Theatre Alliance Presents Four Special Free Theatre Events In This Month

New Jersey Theatre Alliance ("the Alliance") is thrilled to present four unique FREE theatre events in March as part of the 21st annual Stages Festival, the state's largest festival of theatre.

Popular Culture and the American Theatre: The public is invited to a free panel discussion and Q&A on Tuesday, March 20th at 7:00 p.m. at The Lewis Center for the Arts, 185 Nassau Street in Princeton. Leadership from the state's top professional theatres will explore the tension and the harmony between theatre and pop culture: John Dias, Artistic Director at Two River Theater; Ryanne Domingues, Artistic Director at Passage Theatre; Bonnie Monte, Artistic Director at The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey; and Todd Schmidt, Managing Director of Paper Mill Playhouse. Healing Voices OnStage: Caregiver Stories: The public is invited to this free script-in-hand performance on Friday, March 23rd at 7:00 p.m. at the Bickford Theatre at the Morris Museum at 6 Normandy Heights Road in Morristown. Family and professional caregivers-and patients receiving care-submitted prose, poetry, and dramatic monologues about the caregiving experience. The artists at Writers Theatre of New Jersey and Premiere Stages of Kean University worked with the writers to craft dramatic pieces for stage. Diner Theatre: This pop-up theatre experience in a diner is back by popular demand after a successful pilot event last year. On Tuesday, March 27th at 8:00 p.m., the Broadway Diner at 55 River Road in Summit will host the event, which is free with purchase of food. Diners can order from the menu and enjoy their food while they witness several pop-up theatrical scenes performed by professional actors cleverly disguised as fellow diners. Radio Play about Puerto Rico: The whole family will enjoy this sci-fi historical radio drama about twelve-year-old twins Alexa and Beni, ordinary kids from Elizabeth, NJ, who must travel through an inter-dimensional portal and preserve Puerto Rico's lost history. Saturday, March 31st, at 2:00 p.m. in Centennial Hall at the main branch of the Newark Public Library, 5 Washington Street. Free; no reservations necessary.

These events are part of The Stages Festival, a statewide, month-long festival of theatre offering over 90 theatre performances and programs for children and adults free of charge or at significantly discounted rates. Events will take place at theatres, arts centers, libraries, schools, and other community venues throughout the state during the month of March.
