Immerse yourself in the making and doing of dance with Carolyn Dorfman Dance. Culminating in a final performance, these weekly contemporary modern dance classes will train our bodies, minds and develop our unique creative voices. No prior experience required.

Fall Stepping Up: Moving and Making
Intermediate Level
Stepping Up will expand your technical skills while nurturing your individuality. Lead by a principal dancer from Carolyn Dorfman Dance, experience the joy of dance through creation to develop the body, mind and spirit. Note: For students who have studied with prior experience in NJPAC's programs: YAI or YASI or by recommendation.

NJPAC Filmmakers
In collaboration with Downtown Community TV, the NJPAC Filmmakers is a intensive filmmaking arts training program. Students will learn the fundamentals of filmmaking with an emphasis on creating their own original films. While creating films, students will attain artistic and technical skills in camera, audio, and editing programs; practice the art of storytelling using design, lighting, sound and image; create documentaries, music videos, and/or public service announcements. The program also helps students attain skills in media literacy and analysis; view and deconstruct films in round table discussions with media professionals. The program will host an end-of-the-semester film sharing where students will showcase their work.

Young people learn the major elements of Hip-Hop and KNOWLEDGE OF SELF. Students will explore issues that are important to them and their community. Students enhance their performance and writing skills as they share their original work with confidence and style.

Jazz:
M.A.N.Y. (Musical Advancement of Newark Area Youth)
Initiated by two of New Jersey's premier performing arts organizations - New Jersey Performing Arts Center (NJPAC) and the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra (NJSO) - M.A.N.Y. offers programs for beginning and experienced students. Participants can study woodwind, brass and percussion instruments. M.A.N.Y. is for grades 5-10, and designed for students with little or no prior instrumental experience and provides a musical foundation in woodwinds, brass and percussion.
Who is eligible? Students entering grades 5-10 in the following communities: Bayonne, Belleville, Bloomfield, East Orange, Elizabeth, Harrison, Hillside, Irvington, Jersey City, Kearny, Maplewood, Newark, Orange, Paterson and South Orange.

Wells Fargo Jazz for Teens
NJPAC's Wells Fargo Jazz for Teens (JFT) brings together 7th-12th grade instrumental and vocal students from diverse communities in the tri-state region (NJ/NY/PA) for multi-faceted, intensive instruction in jazz. The Music Director and faculty are professional touring musicians and teaching artists who mentor students in the time-honored oral tradition of the genre. The Saturday program places special importance on small ensembles, developing skills including technical ability, improvisation, leadership, and knowledge of the music industry. Those students who plan future careers in jazz or music education gain a more competitive edge for college admissions.
Audition is required. Applicants are not required to have previous jazz experience in order to audition. Auditions take place on Saturday, September 15 2018 from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. Auditions will be held at NJPAC's Center for Arts Education, 24 Rector Street, Newark, NJ.
