NJPAC, which will be hosting an upcoming touring production of A CHORUS LINE, is hoping to break a Guinness record by amassing 1,629 chorus dancers at The Shops at Riverside in Hackensack, NJ this Saturday. The current record for Guinness' "World's Largest Chorus Line" was set in 2004 and consisted of 1,628 dancers.

"We'll be snaked throughout the lower level of the mall", NJPAC spokeswoman Catrina Boisson tells The Record. "If we have enough people to break the record, we will literally loop from one end of the mall and back again."

Saturday's event entitles participants to a 20 percent discount on selected performances of NJPAC's "A CHORUS LINE". Dancers will be required to learn some very simple steps to the show's signature number, "One", which was contrived by choreographer Raymond L. Bennett. They also have the option of going to youtube.com/njpactv where they can learn the moves on-line. "It's super simple", Boissson tells The Record. "We wanted to make sure it was something that someone who has never done a dance step in his life could follow."

In order for the record to be considered authentic, NJPAC must follow a strict set of guidelines laid down by Guinness. For one thing, the number of dancers participating must be tabulated by 40 non-affiliated head-counters. In addition, the chorus line must be a true chorus line, not just a mob of people milling about in one space. "The counting won't start until the hands are linked and we have the run-through," NJPAC spokesman Tyrone N. Manning explains. "It has to be a continuous chorus line. Then we'll run through and count."

Interested participants can register in advance at bit.ly/largestchorusline, or register in person at The Shops at Riverside the day of the event.

A CHORUS LINE will be running at NJPAC from April 26 - May1. For further information, please visit: wwwnjpac.org
