NJ Repertory Company's SUNLIGHT Runs 7/8-8/8

What caused the uproar on campus that is closing in fast on the legacy of a larger-than-life university president? What loyalties will be lost, what family ties will be broken ... and how far is too far to go in search of the truth when lives may be at stake? There are no easy answers to the personal, political, and moral dilemmas posed by the provocative new drama "Sunlight" by Sharr White, running July 8 through August 8 at the New Jersey Repertory Company.

Performances are Thursdays and Fridays at 8pm; Saturdays at 3pm and 8pm; and Sundays at 2pm. Previews are Thursday and Friday, July 8 and 9 at 2pm and 8pm. Opening Night with a food and wine reception is Saturday, July 10. Tickets are $40; $35 for previews; $36 for seniors (65+); and $60 for opening night. It was idealism and force of character that guided liberal lion Matthew Gibbon to the leadership of a top private university. Now, when he should be comfortably enjoying the fruits of his labor his entire faculty and student body have risen up against him because of one error of judgment. The desperate conflict pits him against Vincent Krieger, the popular, conservative dean of the law school who also happens to be his son-in-law and former protégé. Matthew's daughter Charlotte, a brilliant corporate lawyer who has resumed her career after a traumatic setback, is caught in the middle while his no-nonsense, loyal assistant Maryanne is faced for the first time with a jam too big to help him out of. The explosive charges leveled at Matthew may or may not be true. But the die has been cast as he fights against sinister forces to salvage his family, his career, and his reputation.

Special performances will be scheduled with post-show talkbacks between the audience and prominent lawyers and academics about the critical issues raised in the play concerning the First Amendment, habeas corpus, the Geneva Conventions, and more. Names and dates will be announced.
